After the storm, many residents of East Biloxi felt like “castaways,” having lost so much of what we had and being left with nothing more than the clothes on our backs and a few small items we could carry with us. However, we persevered and are on our way back—stronger than we were before!

Our name is derived from a combination of the two school districts we serve. These two schools are the Biloxi Indians and the D’Iberville Warriors. The color that we chose to represent our team was decided because of the school color combination. Biloxi is Red, White, and Black; D’Iberville is Yellow, Black, and White. We chose the color orange to represent our team, which is a mixture of the two predominant colors in each of the two school’s logos and mascots.

Based upon their location at “ground zero,” Hancock County is full of swamp land/bayous and waterways and was hardest hit during Katrina. It is our team’s “roots” in the community that allowed us to overcome tremendous obstacles to get our feet back on the ground and to move forward with recovery and reconstruction efforts.

Our team chose this name to honor the comfort and security our National Guard gives and the force they represent before, during and after a storm. Without the National Guard and other military support after Hurricane Katrina, the Gulf Coast would not have felt safe and secure and had the ability to remain home, where the recovery work was so greatly needed.

Named for the two schools we serve. One of the high school’s mascots is the rebel, and the other high school’s mascot is the hurricanes. Having the strength and agility of a war rebel will aid our team in defeating “The Hurricane.”
